I am heading off for Ecuador very soon (Aug. 30th) and I thought you might want to know what I will be doing down there. I will be updating this blog, hopefully, while I am in Ecuador, so keep checking for more updates with me.
Here is the basic overview of what I know so far:
I will be living with a family of 5 in Quito (the capital city of Ecuador). The family consists of a husband and wife and their three "children", who are really more like young adults, who are unmarried and therefore still live at home.
Quito, being the capital city, is rather large, and I should have access to many things that I do here, such as Internet, city parks, and yes, even restaurants that serve pizza. Quito is located in the Andes mountains, and so because of its high elevation it has very nice weather. It is known as the land of eternal spring, and has an average temperature of about 70 degrees. So that is something to look forward to while I'm there in December.
I will be attending a real Ecuadorian high school, which means my classes will be all in Spanish. Last I heard there were three other American students who were going to Ecuador with this program as well, however most likely we will not be in the same school because part of the point of the program is to be fully immersed in the language.
I will obviously know a lot more about Ecuador and what I am doing there once I get there, so keep checking for updates.
Adios,
Zoe
